Inspired by Nancy Mairs’s poem “Diminishment,” and by my own experience, My Body is Going Away is a meditation on degenerative illness. Using cotton string, I built a body on the loom, one with wide, empty gashes of open warp. This is a piece about loss and decay, but also about what remains.

My Body is Going Away measures 23.5 x 45 inches. It features undyed Turkish cotton string in varying gauges and hangs from a hand-finished oak dowel.
